- What is Prevention Pathways?
Prevention Pathways is an interactive web site sponsored by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP). It is a compilation of programs, online technical assistance, online courses, and resources in the field of substance abuse prevention. Take a look at the site and let us know what you think.
- I am doing research on substance abuse prevention efforts targeted to teens. Where do I begin?
You can learn about other prevention efforts for this population by going to the "Programs" tab and clicking on "Model Programs." These are science-based prevention programs that have been rigorously evaluated.
- I need to design an evaluation for my substance abuse prevention program. How do I start?
From the home page of Prevention Pathways, click on the tab called "Evaluation TA." Here you will find a wealth of information and resources to help you get started. You can ask an evaluator specific questions online, search a registry to find an evaluator, learn more about program evaluation via an online course, or find valuable resources on how to select an evaluator or a data collection tool for your program.
- I am concerned my mother may be drinking too much. Where can I learn more?
From the home page of Prevention Pathways, click on the tab called "Online Courses." One of the courses is "Substance Abuse and Older Adults." It is targeted to family members and caregivers caring for older adults. The course provides a wealth of information on alcohol use and medication misuse by older adults. It also includes screening tools and a section on how to talk to an older adult or the doctor about concerns. If you click on the "Resources" tab, you will find a few short videos on alcohol use among older adults, which are quite informative.
- I want to start a new program to prevent alcohol and drug use during pregnancy. Do you have any resources?
From the home page of Prevention Pathways, click on "Programs" and look for programs under "Model Programs." If you click on the "Resources" tab, under "Videos," you will find two short Public Service Announcements (PSAs) that can be used to advertise your program or get the message out to the public on the dangers of drinking while pregnant.
- Our program is losing its funding. Where can I get a grant to sustain it?
Prevention Pathways provides lists of funding resources from private and corporate foundations and government agencies, as well as grant seeking information. Click on the tab called "Plan and Implement" and take a look at "Funding Information."
